Three More Applications
Today, I applied for two jobs - Millburn Middle School Vice Principal and Tenafly Middle School Vice Principal. Tomorrow I will officially apply for the Social Studies Supervisor position at Montgomery High School. Clearly the SS Supervisor position is the one I want the most, but if I don't get it then my future is not in Montgomery so I need to continue to explore other possibilites (thus the other applications today).

2010 USSBA Judging Assignments
Apparently, I have risen among the ranks of the USSBA judging community. It is crazy that 2010 will be my sixth season judging I guess. Why did people give me so many opportunities when I was 23?
Anyway, I have been scheduled to judge open class bands at Northern States Championships and two of three days of National Championships. I have done Northern States for A class, but Open is a much bigger ball game and Nationals is what it sounds like. It looks like I'm judging Friday night and Sunday with off on Saturday in Annapolis during teachers' convention so we might be able to make a nice weekend of it, too!
Full Schedule:
9/25 Pequannock High School - Pompton Plains, NJ
10/2 USSBA Eastern Pennsylvania Regional - Allentown, PA
10/3 Northern Highlands High School - Allendale, NJ
10/9 Upper Darby High School - Upper Darby, PA
10/16 Brick Township High School - Brick, NJ
10/23 Monroe Township High School - Monroe, NJ
10/30 USSBA Northern States Championships (Open Class) - Allentown, PA
11/5 USSBA National Championships - US Naval Academy - Annapolis, MD
11/7 USSBA National Championships - US Naval Academy - Annapolis, MD

Social Studies Supervisor Position
Although it hasn't been officially posted yet, my supervisor announced her retirement last Friday. In our department of 16 staff members, there are at least 4 people with the requisite certifications to take the job. I know that 3 of the 4 (myself included) are applying for it.
Me (2:1)
Pros - Runner-up for Vice Principal position, district leadership with strategic planning committee, promises from Principal, Human Resources Director, Director, Superintendent, & others that there'd be an administrative position for me in the district if I stuck around long enough, well-established record of pursuing professional development and advancement in Social Studies and educational issues, curriculum writing experience, good relationship with people who will make decision on this position, support of retiring supervisor, experience in 2 districts, lots of commitment to district after school hours
Cons - no AP teaching experience, mid-level teaching experience (7 years), not great at "playing the game"
Competitor 1 (5:1)
Pros - Very successful AP teaching experience, experience in 3 districts, good relationship with Principal, Completed administrative internship in Montgomery with retiring supervisor, good at "playing the game"
Cons - Love it or hate it personality, Did not pursue Vice Principal position, little commitment to district after school hours
Competitor 2 (10:1)
Pros - Successful AP teaching experience, experience in 2 districts, serves as administrator for summer enrichment program in the district, experience on district-level strategic planning committee
Cons - Does not take the lead in department innovation, no obvious commitment to district after school hours
