Thursday, September 13

Board Office:
  • Spoke with a guidance counselor about a student's request to change teachers
  • Responded to a question about REACH placement at an elementary school
  • Worked on various book distribution issues
  • Attended the first meeting of the supervisors' PLC
  • Attended the district supervisors' meeting
  • Distributed student access codes to digital materials to middle and high school teachers
  • Worked with a vice principal at the intermediate school to set up for textbook distribution

Wednesday, September 12

Board Office:
  • Developed a book numbering system for the high school
  • Updated the district website with a student contest announcement
  • Set up digital materials for the intermediate school book
  • Commented on lesson plans for one of the new high school teachers
  • Responded to a parent e-mail regarding a teacher change request and spoke with the appropriate guidance counselor
  • Spoke with a guidance counselor regarding a student placement appeal
  • Worked on Candidates' Night preparation and scheduling
  • Sent an e-mail to elementary REACH teachers regarding the upcoming event
  • Spoke with the middle school principal about observations
  • Worked on my observation schedule for the year
  • Spoke with an intermediate school guidance counselor about REACH placements
  • Updated the elementary principals about a delay in material shipment
High School:
  • Met with the vice principals to discuss teacher change requests and potential teacher issues
  • Attended the high school supervisors' meeting
  • Worked in the book room to unpack some deliveries

Tuesday, September 11

High School:
  • Monitored a student poll regarding the common reading of a book about 9/11 
  • Wandered the building to see the full school approach to the book in action
Board Office:
  • Attended a district leadership team meeting
  • Met with the elementary principals to talk about the delivery of the new social studies materials
  • Met with the assistant superintendent and some supervisors to schedule meetings 
  • Worked on various textbook issues that have come up during the deliveries
  • E-mailed high school vice principals regarding issues that have come up with one high school teacher
  • Met with the superintendent for my first monthly 1 on 1 discussion 

Monday, September 10

Board Office:
  • Sent a clarification regarding this afternoon's PLC meetings to high school teachers
  • Responded to e-mails regarding lesson plans
  • Responded to a guidance counselor's question regarding REACH at the intermediate school
  • Worked on the high school text distribution list
  • Sent an e-mail to the state department of education about some issues for the social studies supervisors' association
  • Sent around a catalog for teaching resources at the HS
  • Spoke with the president of the NJ Association for Gifted Children about our upcoming event
  • E-mailed an elementary school teacher about a student
  • Finished the nomination paperwork for a high school teacher to be recognized as social studies teacher of the year
  • Corresponded with a vendor about issues with our online lesson planning software
  • Responded to a question from a middle school teacher regarding resources for special education teachers
Elementary School:
  • Worked through a delivery of materials with an elementary principal
High School:
  • Facilitated the first PLC meeting of the year
Middle School:
  • Stopped by the distribution of computer devices for students in the 1:1 pilot
Intermediate School:
  • Attended the Board of Education meeting to recognize new staff

Board Office:
  • Sent an e-mail to the elementary principals regarding textbook delivery
  • Sent an e-mail to a contact at the state Department of Education on behalf of the NJSSSA
  • Finished developing the surveys to use during the 3rd grade REACH overview session
  • Prepared for Monday's PLC meetings
High School:
  • Met with the principal and two vice principals to develop a plan to give a poll to the students on Tuesday regarding the book
  • Met with the high school teacher who will be the Teacher Liaison to discuss his role and my expectations
  • Met with a high school teacher to chat about a few things that were on his mind after the first two days of school
  • Spoke with the rep from a textbook company about our pending order
  • Sent invitations to the 5 candidates for Township Committee inviting them to Candidates' Night
  • Sent out the social studies weekly update

Thursday, September 6

Board Office:
  • Completed paperwork for some professional development
  • Developed a reflection form for next week's NJASCD symposium
  • Reviewed the NJ Education Transformation Task Force report
  • Sent around a catalog for the middle school world history teachers to select new materials from
  • Sent an invitation to 3rd grade teachers and elementary school principals at attend the district's first 3rd Grade REACH orientation for parents and students
  • Spoke with the mayor about participating in Candidates' Night
  • Prepared for Candidates' Night
  • Distributed digital access to another elementary school
  • Developed a poll regarding "The Day the World Came to Town" that we could give to students on 9/11 to evaluate the effectiveness of our "One Book" campaign
  • Sent another follow-up e-mail to a parent regarding a REACH placement decision and subsequent meeting
  • Worked with the middle school principal regarding the delivery of new textbooks and sent information to the teachers
  • Started working on a survey to use during the 3rd grade parent/student session

Wednesday, September 5

Board Office:
  • Made recommendations for who I thought should serve in a new Teacher Liaison position for the high school social studies department
  • Prepared for a meeting with the elementary REACH specialists
  • Worked on getting the new teachers access to the online lesson planning program
  • Worked with a textbook publisher to schedule some training on using the new digital materials
  • Facilitated a meeting with the elementary REACH specialists
  • Responded to questions regarding REACH screening from the middle school guidance counselors
  • Distributed digital material codes to two elementary schools
  • Drafted a response to a parent with whom I met last week regarding REACH placement decisions
  • Corresponded with a high school teacher about issues with textbooks
  • Reached out to a vendor representative to get an update on delivery of materials
  • Worked with the new high school teachers on needed materials
  • Started working on a nomination packet for a teacher of the year award for one of my high school teachers

Tuesday, September 4

High School:
  • Attended an opening faculty meeting
  • Presented an overview of the Common Core State Standards and the changes to the social studies curriculum to all grades 7-12 social studies teachers
  • Presented a similar overview to all K-6 teachers
Board Office:
  • Distributed online textbook access information to middle school teachers
  • Responded to as many e-mails as I could on a variety of topics
