Clairmont Diner

Jersey Diners refers to Route 130 as "Diner Highway" because there are more diners on it than any other road in the United States. We made our way to 130 and decided to pick one at random during the Mercer County stretch. The Clairmont was another lucky find.
Ali and I enlisted the help and support of a diner newbie, her cousin Alex, 19, who is visiting from Australia. Like the best diners, the Clairmont included a book of a menu. In fact, it was probably the most extensive menu of any we've visited to date.
I ordered the bluefish dinner special ($9.99) which came with a baked potato, mixed vegetables, soup (Manhattan clam chowder) and salad bar. I think it also included dessert, but I didn't take any. Ali had the roast duckling dinner special ($9.99) which came with a baked sweet potato, broccoli, soup (Manhattan clam chowder), salad bar and coffee. Alex, over our objections that he should eat something more substantial and less home-cookable, ordered the Doctor's Choice omelet ($6.99). This was an egg white omelet with various vegetables (featuring capsicum), cottage cheese and rye toast.
The diner included an interesting fusion of old and new. One section of the diner was very modern, restaurant style and the other section had a old-fashioned counter and booths. The entire place was decorated to look like a 1950s diner with shiny stainless steel and an Americana color scheme.
